gpm often has some strange effects on mouse in X. If it also may affect 
the keyboard seems unlikely, but for the mouse problems, kill gpm.

well I obviously tried without gpm and there is the same problem, btw i use 
gpm as a repeater to /dev/gpmdata, and X reads from it.
