Hi Tim! Thanks a lot for your quick and long answer first.
==> I am already using EXT3 as filesystem, so I don't have to change that anymore. ==> I am using woody which is the actual stable version of debian. ==> I also already tried to press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to leave X for a console, but with this "trick" its the same: sometimes it works fine and I got a console-login from where I can shutdown afterwards, and sometimes I don't get the console and X starts to "brighten" the screen how I described it before :-( ==> I made one change in the X-Config-file: I put the Default color depth to 16 instead of 24. I don't know if these helps. The next thing I will try is to update my X-Version to the latest release. I have already downloaded it but not yet installed. After that I'll probably also use/try your script. (I would in fact prefer to shut down X with the menu, and not by "hand") As I said: everything works fine, the system never crashes during work and is very stable, only on shutdown of X I run into these problems. Maybe in the meanwhile there where some additional hints what could happen on my lappi? thx a lot for your help and ev. further hints. -- best regards, salut, liebe Grüsse, Richard Palfalvi "Werde was Du bist - Deviens ce que tu es - Become what you are" :-)) Austria - Vienna - Autriche - Vienne - Österreich - Wien - Austria - Vienna +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ NEU: Mit GMX ins Internet.
