the battery monitor applet you are using (it sounds like the one from KDE) must be ACPI aware. I suspect it isn't. There is a command line utility just called 'acpi' around. I found it on freshmeat.net. Compile that up and run it and you should see that ACPI is working just fine. The battery applet is broken. -- .''`. Carl B.
