Otherwise you can use X 4.2 (in sid) with the *radeon* driver (I'd suggest to 
take a look at Ati drivers from gatos project on sourceforge for a better 
accelleration support).
Or again you can compile X 4.2 from source as I did some time ago (when 4.2 
wasn't available in sid neither) and provide fake xfree deb packages (through 
equivs-control/equivs-build) to supply other software dependencies.

Radeons are supported with X > 4.1.99 :P
