I have a Toshiba Satellite 1800 and getting X to work was a bit of a chore. The Video card is a Cyberblade but the Xfree86 driver for this card does not work in Xfree86 4.1 (I have heard it does in 4.2 but there are no Debian packages for this yet). This means to get X to work you will need to compile your own kernel and compile in framebuffer support. Using the Framebuffer driver with X will work reasonably well although it is a bit slow. If you have a search on Google you will find there are quite a few people who have documented how to do this and posted it onto the web. As for the console, once you have built your new kernel with framebuffer support the console will utilise your whole screen. Hope this helps. Cheers Geoff http://movies.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo!
