Hi,
I bought a Pcmcia-Lan-Card "Longshine CardBus Fast Ethernet 10/100 LCS-8539TX" ( same as Abocom FE2500MX). It works ok with WindowsXP (no flaming, I have to use it). With Linux however, it recognizes our 100mbps lan only as a 10mbps network and doesnt't work at all. The LED on the card shows "100", but syslog says "eth0: 21143 10mbps sensed media." and "eth0: 21143 10baseT link beat good." and I don't get a connection. I can ping myself, but nobody else. I searched the net for the problem and found a tip. When I do ifconfig eth0 promisc it works somehow. Although it feels a bit sluggish compared to Windows, and often it takes a long time before a connection to a website is made, which otherwise appears instantly. Some questions: Is there a fix or workaround which doesn't require to set the card in promiscous mode to make it work with linux? Or any other tip to make it work more reliable? Is the tulip driver "tulip_cb", which is loaded by the cardmanager, the right one? What's the correct entry in /etc/pcmcia/config for the card? This? card "Linksys EtherFast 10/100" manfid 0x13d1, 0xab08 bind "tulip_cb" Thanx a lot Peter Notebook: Gericom Overdose II Distro: Debian Testing pcmcia-cs ver. 3.1.29 pcmcia-source ver. 3.1.29 kernel 2.4.13 (pcmcia-drvers NOT from the kernel) syslog with kernel 2.4.9 an pcmcia-cs ver 3.1.28 (same with 2.4.13 and 3.1.29) Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: Linux PCMCIA Card Services 3.1.28 Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: kernel build: 2.4.9 #2 Fri Sep 14 01:03:39 CEST 2001 Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: options: [pci] [cardbus] [apm] Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: Intel PCIC probe: <6>PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:0a.0 Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:0a.1 Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: TI 1225 rev 01 PCI-to-CardBus at slot 00:0a, mem 0x10000000 Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: host opts [0]: [ring] [serial pci & irq] [pci irq 10] [lat 168/176] [bus 2/5] Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: host opts [1]: [ring] [serial pci & irq] [pci irq 10] [lat 168/176] [bus 6/9] Dec 14 16:15:55 host kernel: ISA irqs (scanned) = 3,4,7,11 PCI status changes Dec 14 16:15:55 host cardmgr[941]: starting, version is 3.1.28 Dec 14 16:15:55 host cardmgr[941]: config error, file 'config' line 568: no ID method for this card Dec 14 16:15:55 host cardmgr[941]: watching 2 sockets Dec 14 16:15:56 host kernel: cs: cb_alloc(bus 2): vendor 0x13d1, device 0xab08 Dec 14 16:15:56 host cardmgr[941]: initializing socket 0 Dec 14 16:15:56 host cardmgr[941]: socket 0: Linksys Etherfast 10/100 Dec 14 16:15:56 host cardmgr[941]: executing: 'modprobe cb_enabler' Dec 14 16:15:56 host cardmgr[941]: executing: 'modprobe tulip_cb' Dec 14 16:15:56 host kernel: cs: cb_config(bus 2) Dec 14 16:15:56 host kernel: cs: IO port probe 0x0100-0x04ff: excluding 0x3c0-0x3df 0x4d0-0x4d7 Dec 14 16:15:56 host kernel: cs: IO port probe 0x03e0-0x04cf: clean.
