I currently don't have gpm installed. I wasn't aware that it was required for tpconfig to work. I interpreted the brief directions on the web page (http://www.compass.com/synaptics/) to mean that you must use tpconfig before loading any mouse driver, such as gpm. Does tpconfig work ONLY with gpm? Anyone know why? I assumed that it sent commands to the touchpad telling it how to configure itself, and the pad would stay in that configuration until reboot. My touchpad works, it's just very sensitive to tap. A tad too much pressure while moving your finger and it gets interpreted as a click. It acts the same way if you boot into Windoze, so I assume that I just have a sensitve touchpad. Under Windoze, I was able to go under Control Panel and change the sensitivity. After a bit, I realized that I seldom if ever use the tap function. I'm more comfortable with the buttons, so I turned off tap under Windoze. I'm trying to find a way to do the same under Linux, since I spend the majority of my time there. A new version of tpconfig was just released. It supposedly works under X but requires patching the kernel.
