>From what I understand, the Toshiba "CD-boot" is really just a floppy boot image read from a CD. The sad consequence that sets Toshiba laptops apart from other systems is that they cannot boot an image larger than a standard floppy. Hence the boot image is limited to 1.44MB. But the Potato boot images are 2.88MB (a "newer" floppy format). And that is why the Potato CDs do not boot on Toshiba laptops. Apparently the BIOS from other manufacturers doesn't put the same size limitation on CD boot images. The bit I don't understand is why you can boot from 2.2r0. It doesn't work for me (490CDT).
