Hallo! I struggled several weeks to get a custom made 2.4.x kernel running that also supports this IBM Turbo 16/4 token ring PCMCIA card.
A warmly recommend to use Alan Cox kernel patch ( I used ac18 ). This token ring card worked straight out of the box after compilation. I removed all extra module lines in the /etc/pcmcia/config.opts file.
