I have a Compaq Presario with a Synaptics TouchPad. The interface is
detected as PS/2 by the kernel and to work under X I had to make a symlink
from /dev/psaux to /dev/mouse (or modify the XF86Config file by hand).
Another point: probably is better to stop gpm (it seems that there are cases
when it interferes with X).

Calin Copos.
