Apt won't remove the "orphaned" libgnome2 automatically.
If you install the deborphan package, you can use it to find libraries
and other packages that are not needed.  I use
    deborphan --guess-all

Also, the "orphaner" front-end automates the process of removing a
package, finding newly orphaned packages, and repeating.
