Hi, I recently got an A21m off a friend for a good price, and am much pleased with it except I can't get it to boot from the internal DVD-RW drive, which does not appear to be original equipment.
When I go into BIOS to tell it to boot first from the DVD drive, I get an odd exclamation mark symbol beside the drive, without apparent explanation. When I then go to reboot, I can see/hear no evidence that BIOS is even trying to boot from DVD. Needless to say I have tried to boot from several CD-ROMs that have been observed to boot in other machines, and the DVD drive works just fine for reading and writing when I boot into Debian Sarge from the hard-drive. I have spent hours searching Google and the IBM support site, so if any old Thinkpad hand has any suggestions, they would be appreciated. syslog tells me this about the drive: kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 kernel: hdd: attached ide-scsi driver. kernel: scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices kernel: Vendor: MATSHITA Model: DVD-RAM UJ-815A Rev: DZJ1 kernel: Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Clayton -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
