I had the same problem with my toshiba - but I have an Intel graphic chip...

Now it works with a special "modline" in X-config:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "LCD 1280x800"
        HorizSync 28-70
        VertRefresh 43-72
        Option "DPMS"
        ModeLine "1280x800" 83.46 1280 1344 1480 1680 800 801 804 828
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Device "Intel Corp. 82852/855GM"
        Monitor "LCD 1280x800"
        DefaultDepth 24
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

1280x800?? That's a very weird resolution. I've seen 1280x1024 and
1600x1280 - but never 1280x800. Are you sure?

Subject: problem with 1280x800 resolution

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P15-S409 that came with NVIDIA, I installed
NVIDIA drivers found at www.nvidia.com, but it didnt recognize the
"default" resolution of the screen, and when i try to change it, it
doesnt appear the option "1280x800" just "1024x768", "800x600",
"640x400", "512x384", "400x300" and "320x240"

Hope you can help me with my problem, i have attached my XF86Config-4
file in case you need it, and sorry for my bad english :)
