Hey, y'all- I've been running RH on my sony vaio 505G for more than a year (since a day after I bought it, in fact.) Recently I attempted to switch it over to Debian, just like my desktop(s). However, I ran into problems. What I did:
1) Booted from the CD, passing ide2=0x180,0x386 to the kernel as per the instructions at http://www.joechiu.com/computing/vaio/linuxon505.html (which has worked for my previous RH installs on this machine.) 2) Went through most of the install process, including HD detection and partition. 3) Got to the Install kernel, modules, etc. portion of the install, and am prompted for install media. Tried literally every single possible choice for the CDROM, including PCMCIA, and get an error every time. Is there something else I should be doing at boot-time? Or should I try some other method of install (say, off of the RH partition?) If so, I assume I'll need to boot from floppies. Is it correct what I've read here that I need the tecra disks? Anyway, hope someone has some idea what I'm doing wrong. Sorry this has been so uninformative- I'm in the middle of exams, and have a ton of work to do and must get debian on the machine before I leave for home in a week. Thanks- Luis ####################################################################### Profanity is the one language that all programmers understand. -Anonymous #######################################################################
