Hello,
I've been running the debian distribution for over a month now, and have no luck at all getting APM to work 100% on my IBM Thinkpad 560. I am aware of all of the CONFIG parameters. I am running the 2.0.36 kernel. I believe I can suspend/resume once OK on AC, but it will not suspend (can't enter requested state) when on battery.
My questions are:
Is the "apm_bios.c" the ONLY place where this can be fixed? I saw a patch (for 2.0.34) but it looks like that made it into the official 2.0.36 kernel. I tried hacking up the apm_bios.c, had no luck, and went back to the old file.
I have tried the IBM 1.2 System SW and recenty downgraded to the IBM IBM 1.1 System SW (BIOS=1.28 APM=1.35) as I found a site on the web from someone who was using that BIOS and had better results.
Is "apm_bios.c" the only "variable" I should be mucking with? I built a 2.2.0 kernal for grins, and this didn't work any better (plus I had other problems as I am for the most part running the 2.1 debian slink-CD stuff).
ANY and ALL advice is welcome. These topics may be over the heads of the debian-user list, they are over my head for sure. I am determined to get this working IF IT IS POSSIBLE with the 2.0.36 kernel. I finally got everything else working (sound, zip drive, PCMCIA-ide CDROM, PCMCIA-scsi CDROM, X Windows (1 mode has flicker everything works, the other mode has no flicker but some SW doesn't work with it, and the screen is dim). And I'm forced to use AOL/WIN95 for internet (for now). This is why I wish to stay with the 2.0.36 kernel as everything else works.
John
