Not sure if this is your problem but it is a common problem for many people so I will mention it. ls -l /dev/dsp crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 2002-03-14 14:51 /dev/dsp Make sure you are in the audio group. Assuming your login is wlv21 then the following will add you to the audio group. You will want the same for video, floppy, cdrom, src, adm, staff too. addgroup wlv21 audio Then log out and log back in so that at login you will be in that group. Bob
