Since I apt-get upgrade'd my debian-System on my compaq Evo N800v, X starts with a wrong resolution. It starts with 1024x768, I had 1280x1024 before. And it was better, now everything is too big..

Don't know if my answer fits your problem but with apt-get upgrading my debian system gnome was updated. There is a bug that prevents restoring my resolution that I had set. Also switching from 800x600 to 1024x768 does not work properly now. For the case that your problem should be a gnome problem you will find some bug reports on 'bugzilla.gnome.org'.
