Guys, first of all, let me clarify a couple of things. I hail from the Windows world where you just plug the card, install the drivers and voila, you're all set. I am just trying to learn about access points and all that.
Secondly, one my co-workers is right next to me and he is working just fine with his wireless card in the windows world. That tells us that there is an access point close by. At the hotel where I am staying at there is also a WiFi network. I have been unable to scan a network on either environment. I think the kernel/driver is seeing the card for one of the lights is on. Besides, I can "see" the wlan0 device. Here is the output of iwconfig, ifconfig and iwlist commands. Again, I would appreciate any help on this matter. -Marvin gtekcr-marvin:/home/marvin# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462GHz Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF Bit Rate:54Mb/s Tx-Power:16 dBm RTS thr:2347 B Fragment thr:2346 B Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-10 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 gtekcr-marvin:/home/marvin# ifconfig -v eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:39:19:A5:C4 inet addr:172.22.22.79 Bcast:172.22.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2578 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1450 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:588 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:1344188 (1.2 MiB) TX bytes:253187 (247.2 KiB) Interrupt:11 Base address:0xeb40 Memory:f7efd000-f7efd038 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:940 (940.0 b) TX bytes:940 (940.0 b) wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:BD:F0:E6:41 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) Interrupt:11 Memory:10800000-10801fff gtekcr-marvin:/home/marvin# iwlist wlan0 scan wlan0 No scan results gtekcr-marvin:/home/marvin# ----- Mensaje Original ----- De: Alvin Oga <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fecha: Martes, Junio 22, 2004 2:40 am Asunto: Re: Fwd: Re: Going wireless > > > On Tue, 22 Jun 2004, David Fokkema wrote: > > > On Mon, Jun 21, 2004 at 03:20:17PM -0600, Marvin Gerardo Aguero > Salazar wrote: > > > Hi guys, I've been trying to install my wireless card to no avail. > > > > > > I have followed the suggestion by David, but still cannot make > it work. > > > > > > iwlist wlan0 scan > > > > > > returns > > > > > > wlan0 No scan results > > what is the output of iwconfig > - it should list your wireless network ( wlan0 or ?? ) > > what is the output of ifconfig -v > - it should list your wireless network > > if nothing is listed, you don't have a wl connection > and the above iwlist scan is correct since you dont have a > wireless network > ( your kernel and it's driver didn't see your wireless card ) > > > c ya > alvin > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe".
