Compile the module, as if you were compiling it with an new Kernel (same version), install it (make modules modules_install) do a depmod -a (already done by modules_install, but if you copied the file you've to to it manually) and load the module. That should work. If it's not working, you have to restart the system. Anyway, what's the problem in restarting your system? Because of the last ptrace and other bugs, an kernel-update might be sensefull.
