I don't know how 'known' it is, but I see the same problem with 2.4.18 and later with my D-Link DWL-650 card (same chipset as MA401). As a result I am still running 2.4.17. When checking out the really bleeding edge stuff, I haven't seen the problem in 2.5.45 or so though.
