I own and use a Latitude ls.  Great little machine.  I could never get
sound to work except for using the commercial OSS drivers.  I did not
try ALSA and using the kernel drivers I experienced the same issue.
Since the sound card shares resources with the video card at some level,
I experienced random lockups even using the OSS drivers.  Most of the
time, sound was fine though.
