Well, my Xircom RealPort (REM56G-100) continues to timeout every 1
minute or so (and it stays "offline" for about 30 seconds and them
recovers).
This happens with kernel 2.4.5, pcmcia-cs-3.1.26 and
$ /sbin/lsmod

By the way, just curiosity, how do you explain this "promiscuous good
behaviour"?
