In the working configuration under win2k... you can see the routes
that get established for your cross connect? (in w95/w98 it was
Open an MSDOS Prompt
route print
but, you may have some other method now, I dunno.)
Under the debian setup, route -n should reveal the routes that you're
trying to establish this time.
I notice that your box is .5 and the other box is .1 for its range...
that's fine... but you may need to have the other machine's idea of a
default route come to .5, probably not a default setting. Almost no
traffic (funny thing that :/ ) so I snipped that part.
I use cross connects for installfests and other fast-transfer needs,
so I do them a *lot*...
Do you get no pings at all, or they are disgustingly slow? Is the
other one able to ping you, putzy-as-glaciers, or no response? (Hmm,
you might not be able to tell if it would be the middle one, MSwin's
ping timeout is rather short.)
