Well, I don't see anything like that, nor does grovelling through
everything in the asla source tree (from alsa-cvsexport-2000-05-31.tar.bz2)
reveal anything that looks like it might create them.

I'd be happy enough to point mpg123 and other tools at the appropriate
device, but I don't even see a dspish thing in /proc/asound/dev.
Additionally, I don't see any flags or anything that I can set in the
alsa build process to turn on more "oss-compatiblity" than I already
have.
