Dear Debian folks,

on a lot of recent Intel based servers ECC RAM cannot be taken advantage
of in Debian (or Ubuntu), because the shipped Linux kernels do not have
an EDAC module for it included.

That module (EDEC_IE31200) for device like

        00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/Ivy
Bridge DRAM Controller [8086:0158] (rev 09)

has only been added in Linux 3.17 [1].

It’d be great if that module could be backported to Linux 3.16.

Is that something that has to go over the Canonical Kernel Tree or does
Debian also carry such backports separately?

Thanks,

Paul
