Package: src:linux Version: 3.13.5-1 Severity: normal 3.13.5 introduces a regression in the xhci code that causes mass storage to not work correctly. In my case, the experience was that first writes failed misteriously, the filesystem was corrupted and then it could not be mounted anymore and I saw I/O errors.
The problem seems to be known upstream https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/3/6/284 and fixed in 3.14-rc6. I hope the relevant commits (reverts) will be backported to 3.13.7. If a stable release includes: Revert "xhci 1.0: Limit arbitrarily-aligned scatter gather." this most likely means that this bug is fixed. Just reporting this in case some other Debian user has the same problem, and to track this issue. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.13-1-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Debian 4.8.2-14) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.13.5-1 (2014-03-04) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.13-1-amd64 root=UUID=dd840eac-0283-45e9-8f04-ef33f516d29d ro quiet i915.i915_enable_fbc=0 i915.i915_enable_rc6=7 i915.lvds_downclock=1 "acpi_osi=!Windows 2012" init=/lib/systemd/systemd ** Tainted: WC (1536) * Taint on warning. * Module from drivers/staging has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [241534.901961] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241534.917983] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241534.917989] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241534.918444] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Unhandled error code [241534.918448] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] [241534.918449] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK [241534.918451] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] CDB: [241534.918452] Write(10): 2a 00 00 00 54 87 00 00 02 00 [241534.918459] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 21639 [241536.250911] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.267001] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.267005] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.386991] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.403130] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.403135] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.523120] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.539276] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.539282] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.659163] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.675305] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.675310] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.795291] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.811468] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.811474] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.931305] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241536.947646] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241536.947652] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241536.948179] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Unhandled error code [241536.948182] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] [241536.948183] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK [241536.948185] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] CDB: [241536.948186] Write(10): 2a 00 00 00 32 1f 00 00 39 00 [241536.948193] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 12831 [241588.164995] usb 4-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [241588.180982] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca140 [241588.180990] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ffff8800bb9ca100 [241593.184023] usb 4-2: Set SEL for device-initiated U2 failed.
