It seems that optimization settings have impact on this problem. Ben, I couldn't install your 3.2 kernel version (too old for my current Debian install). However, I've recompiled with -O1 a -O2 non-working kernel configuration on my Gentoo install. No problem with -O1 :-) Keep in mind that this is just an observation on a single kernel version/flavour at the moment. Future will tell us if this problem really comes up with optimization settings.
