It looks like the empty /spu was just fixed by: commit 6747e83235caecd30b186d1282e4eba7679f81b7 Author: Michael Ellerman <mich...@ellerman.id.au> Date: Tue Apr 23 15:13:14 2013 +0000 powerpc/spufs: Initialise inode->i_ino in spufs_new_inode() which went into Linux 3.8.12 and should be in the next version in Debian unstable. It will take a bit longer to get into a 3.2.y update. I don't know whether this change will also fix the crash.
