Subject: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64: System freezes frequently without leaving any trace (log) -- HD 2500 8Gb RAM Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.41-2 Severity: important
Dear Maintainer, This is a fresh Wheezy install on new hardware: * core i5 3470s (ivy bridge) with an H77 chipset * 8Gb RAM * onboard graphics (HD 2500) * What led up to the situation? I often experience system freezes (today 3 times within 2 hours), but do not see any relationship with the software used. Always with an X session (xfce), though I am not sure it is of any help. No way to switch to a text console, the numlock key does not switch the led on/off anymore, the mouse pointer cannot be moved. I did a memtest to check for bad RAM, but found no error after 5 hours running. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I have no solution at the moment, although I found a bug description similar to this one (which however is marked as fixed) : #689268 I haven't tried with a newer kernel yet, thanks for your help, Dimitri -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-15) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.2.41-2 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=5d41cc9b-817f-44a6-82c9-75898ef11f11 ro quiet ** Tainted: C (1024) * Module from drivers/staging has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 3.210384] mtrr: type mismatch for e0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining [ 3.210386] [drm] MTRR allocation failed.
