Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.35-2 Severity: normal File: uvesafb Dear Maintainer, the Intel i815 integrated with this graphics card has relatively significant compatibility issues with many Linux kernels and loaders.
LILO prompts about pressing Enter to list video modes on every boot. Can use vga=normal or vga=ext, but noting down a video mode and passing it to a 2.4 kernel doesn't work properly. GRUB2 can display a graphic menu. On both 2.6.32-5-686 and 3.2.35-2-686-pae kernels, trying to increase the resolution via gfxpayload produces unreadable text due to it being squished together. (on my CRT monitor, it appears brighter than the standard dim white, comparable to "bold" bright white). In the GRUB2 command line, `vbeinfo` turns the screen black and `vbetest` just displays a blinking cursor. Ctrl+Alt+Del is the only way out. Running `modprobe uvesafb` returns "[timestamp] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22" and the /sys/bus/platform/drivers/uvesafb/uvesafb.0/vbe_modes file, supposed to contain available resolutions, isn't created. Re-running the command produces no output. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-4-686-pae (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-14) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.2.35-2 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-686-pae root=UUID=64d759db-b054-499c-9d71-34634055e5c3 ro quiet ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [ 8.811351] usbcore: registered new device driver usb [ 8.857268] ehci_hcd: USB 2.0 'Enhanced' Host Controller (EHCI) Driver [ 8.858028] ehci_hcd 0000:01:01.2: EHCI Host Controller [ 8.858151] ehci_hcd 0000:01:01.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 [ 8.880092] ehci_hcd 0000:01:01.2: irq 10, io mem 0xec100400 [ 8.892204] ehci_hcd 0000:01:01.2: USB 2.0 started, EHCI 1.00 [ 8.892326] usb usb1: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0002 [ 8.892338] usb usb1: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1 [ 8.892348] usb usb1: Product: EHCI Host Controller [ 8.892356] usb usb1: Manufacturer: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae ehci_hcd [ 8.892364] usb usb1: SerialNumber: 0000:01:01.2 [ 8.892907] hub 1-0:1.0: USB hub found [ 8.892927] hub 1-0:1.0: 5 ports detected [ 8.898502] ohci_hcd: USB 1.1 'Open' Host Controller (OHCI) Driver [ 8.898642] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.0: OHCI Host Controller [ 8.898699] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 2 [ 8.898756] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.0: irq 7, io mem 0xec101000 [ 8.902534] Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M [ 8.919622] FDC 0 is a National Semiconductor PC87306 [ 8.930307] uhci_hcd: USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver [ 8.930538] uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: setting latency timer to 64 [ 8.930551] uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: UHCI Host Controller [ 8.930599] uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 3 [ 8.930664] uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: irq 11, io base 0x00001820 [ 8.930799] usb usb3: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0001 [ 8.930810] usb usb3: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1 [ 8.930819] usb usb3: Product: UHCI Host Controller [ 8.930827] usb usb3: Manufacturer: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae uhci_hcd [ 8.930836] usb usb3: SerialNumber: 0000:00:1f.2 [ 8.931666] hub 3-0:1.0: USB hub found [ 8.931687] hub 3-0:1.0: 2 ports detected [ 8.985315] usb usb2: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0001 [ 8.985330] usb usb2: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1 [ 8.985340] usb usb2: Product: OHCI Host Controller [ 8.985348] usb usb2: Manufacturer: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae ohci_hcd [ 8.985357] usb usb2: SerialNumber: 0000:01:01.0 [ 9.004209] hub 2-0:1.0: USB hub found [ 9.004249] hub 2-0:1.0: 3 ports detected [ 9.004581] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.1: OHCI Host Controller [ 9.004615] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.1: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 4 [ 9.004673] ohci_hcd 0000:01:01.1: irq 11, io mem 0xec102000 [ 9.090381] usb usb4: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0001 [ 9.090394] usb usb4: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1 [ 9.090404] usb usb4: Product: OHCI Host Controller [ 9.090412] usb usb4: Manufacturer: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae ohci_hcd [ 9.090420] usb usb4: SerialNumber: 0000:01:01.1 [ 9.091220] hub 4-0:1.0: USB hub found [ 9.091244] hub 4-0:1.0: 2 ports detected [ 9.106517] parport_pc 00:0c: reported by Plug and Play ACPI [ 9.106580] parport0: PC-style at 0x278, irq 5 [PCSPP] [ 9.121601] iTCO_vendor_support: vendor-support=0 [ 9.134945] 3c59x: Donald Becker and others.
