It's possible this is <http://bugs.freedesktop.org/25327>, which is
said to have been fixed before 2.6.35.  Do you still have access to
this machine?  What kernel are you using these days, and how does it
behave?  Please also attach output from

        reportbug --template linux-image-$(uname -r)

for reference.
