I noticed the same poor performance (e.g. hanging ssh sessions) on my Wheezy box with
firmware-ralink 0.36 linux-image-3.2.0-3-686-pae 3.2.23-1 after "iwconfig wlan0 power off" the performace is fine. # lsusb ... Bus 001 Device 002: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870/RT3070 Wireless Adapter ... But the problem seems to be related to the driver, not the firmware. Wireless works fine on the same box in Squeeze, even if i install firmware-ralink 0.36 there.
