I found the following bug report and associated mailing list thread of
interest.
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13362
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/840990
After reading the above, I decided to play around a bit more. I booted
the 2.6.32 kernel and immediately tried to download the ISO. I received
excellent throughput, nearly 2 MB/s, as with my other machine. I was
actually having a difficult time causing the link to flake out, though I
could tell it was happening very sporadically. I played around with
setting the transfer rate manually (iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M), and this
appeared to reduce/remove the flakiness. I then downed and upped the
interface, after setting the rate to auto (iwconfig wlan0 rate auto),
and the flakiness was back.
I was a bit shocked at this point and didn't continue playing with the
3.2 and 3.5 kernels. I suppose this isn't as easily reproducible as I
thought...? I'm getting speeds ranging from 1 MB/s to 2 MB/s right now.
Oh, it just dropped to 200 kB/s... And now it's steadily raising.
Sorry for the dialog...
