PA 2.0 can handle all the HDMI outputs advertised by the kernel, but one has to try all of them using pavucontrol to find the "correct" one. With kernel's 3.3 jack detection, this is done automatically. Personally I think PA 2.0 is sufficient, since the user can select the right HDMI output, but automatic detection is definitely better for ease of use.
