When the submitter of #613874 tried a 3.2.y kernel, the bug seemed to be fixed, but unfortunately we weren't able to follow up to find the relevant patch and apply it to squeeze. Can you reproduce this with a wheezy, sid, or squeeze-backports kernel? The only packages needed from outside squeeze for this test are the kernel image itself, linux-base, and initramfs-tools. If it doesn't work, we're in luck and we can report this upstream. If it works, a next step would be to try a few versions halfway between from snapshot.debian.org to narrow down what version introduced the fix.
