There goes my theory.  (I was hoping this might be a duplicate
of <http://bugs.debian.org/563693>.)

Could you also test the latest 2.6.32.y kernel from squeeze or
squeeze-proposed-updates (that's linux-image-2.6.32-5-686-bigmem
2.6.32-40), to see if squeeze is still affected?
