Something like xinerama with an external monitor. Odd. Sorry for the long quiet. Can you reproduce it (the geometry flickering, not the crash) with a current squeeze or sid kernel? If so, please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log and "dmesg" output after reproducing it. Either way, please attach full "dmesg" output from booting up, so we can get to know your setup a little better.
