* What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? I had been running Debian Squeeze for over a year on my HP Mini 5101 with the wl wireless driver. With the last kernel update (2.6.32+29) the wireless quit working. I unstalled wl and tried using brcm8011, but it would kernel panic. After spending some time on it and seeing that quite of bit of progress was made on kernels after 2.6.32, I decided to reformat with Wheezy to get 3.0.0. I did not have any luck with 3.0.0 or the wl driver either. Using ndiswrapper causes a hard panic, but I'm interested in using brcmsmac because it is free and open. I compiled 3.2.0-rc1 to see if there was any progress and I still get soft panics. Here is the backtrace from the panic when I enable the wireless switch: Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852054] Modules linked in: qcserial usb_wwan usbserial btusb arc4 brcmsmac(C) brcmutil(C) mac80211 cfg80211 crc_ccitt acpi_cpufreq mperf cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_stats cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_conservative parport_pc ppdev lp parport bnep rfcomm bluetooth pci_stub vboxpci(O) vboxnetadp(O) vboxnetflt(O) vboxdrv(O) uinput fuse nfsd nfs lockd fscache auth_rpcgss nfs_acl sunrpc ext2 loop snd_hda_codec_analog joydev uvcvideo snd_hda_intel videodev snd_hda_codec hp_wmi sparse_keymap rfkill media snd_hwdep snd_pcm pcspkr snd_seq evdev snd_timer snd_seq_device psmouse serio_raw i915 rng_core snd drm_kms_helper drm i2c_algo_bit hp_accel lis3lv02d soundcore i2c_core snd_page_alloc input_polldev battery wmi video ac power_supply processor button ext4 mbcache jbd2 crc16 dm_mod sg sd_mod crc_t10dif ata_generic ata_piix ahci libahci libata uhci_hcd scsi_mod ehci_hcd usbcore sky2 fan thermal thermal_sys [last unloaded: scsi_wait_scan] Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852365] Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852377] Pid: 0, comm: swapper Tainted: G C O 3.0.0-1-686-pae #1 Hewlett-Packard HP Mini 5101/3632 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852399] EIP: 0060:[<c105c289>] EFLAGS: 00000297 CPU: 0 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852419] EIP is at do_raw_spin_lock+0xc/0x15 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852430] EAX: f2e47130 EBX: f2e47120 ECX: f79de008 EDX: 00005150 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852442] ESI: f2e47130 EDI: 00000000 EBP: 00000100 ESP: f580ffb8 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852455] DS: 007b ES: 007b FS: 00d8 GS: 00e0 SS: 0068 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852468] Process swapper (pid: 0, ti=f580e000 task=c13eefa0 task.ti=c13c0000) Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852478] Stack: Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852485] f8e8be40 f2e4714c f2e47150 00000000 00000100 c103acdb 00000006 c13c6a18 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852517] c103ae6b c103aeff 0000000b 00000007 00000000 c13c1f14 c13c0000 c103ae6b Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852546] 00000046 c10095d1 Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852558] Call Trace: Nov 10 14:31:27 leblanc-netbook kernel: [ 678.852607] [<f8e8be40>] ?
