Hi, I have the same issue. We have static DHCP on LAN and I have got a guest IP address now :(.
The driver logs the right MAC address, but ifconfig, ip, dhclient reads a strange address: Linux bobek 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 15:06:18 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux [ 1.174608] tg3.c:v3.119 (May 18, 2011) [ 1.193701] tg3 0000:09:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 1.295029] tg3 0000:09:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 1.353155] tg3 0000:09:00.0: eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95755m) rev a002] (PCI Express) MAC address 00:1d:09:c9:cb:6d [ 1.353160] tg3 0000:09:00.0: eth0: attached PHY is 5755 (10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet) (WireSpeed[1], EEE[0]) [ 1.353163] tg3 0000:09:00.0: eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] TSOcap[1] [ 1.353166] tg3 0000:09:00.0: eth0: dma_rwctrl[76180000] dma_mask[64-bit] zito@bobek:~$ sudo ethtool -P eth0 Permanent address: 00:1d:09:c9:cb:6d zito@bobek:~$ ip link show dev eth0 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP qlen 1000 link/ether aa:00:04:00:0a:04 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff zito@bobek:~$ sudo ifconfig eth0 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr aa:00:04:00:0a:04 inet addr:192.168.65.26 Bcast:192.168.65.31 Mask:255.255.255.240 inet6 addr: fe80::a800:4ff:fe00:a04/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:10515 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:9743 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3830493 (3.6 MiB) TX bytes:1000607 (977.1 KiB) Interrupt:17 zito@bobek:~$ sudo lspci -vv -s 09:00.0 09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5755M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 01fe Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 48 Region 0: Memory at f1bf0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at <ignored> [disabled] Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 3 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 NoSoftRst+ PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=1 PME- Capabilities: [50] Vital Product Data Product Name: Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller Read-only fields: [PN] Part number: BCM95755m [EC] Engineering changes: 01FE.004 [SN] Serial number: 0123456789 [MN] Manufacture ID: 31 34 65 34 [RV] Reserved: checksum good, 28 byte(s) reserved Read/write fields: [YA] Asset tag: XYZ01234567 [RW] Read-write area: 107 byte(s) free End Capabilities: [58] Vendor Specific Information: Len=78 <?> Capabilities: [e8] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Address: 00000000fee0300c Data: 41b1 Capabilities: [d0] Express (v1) Endpoint, MSI 00 DevCap: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, Latency L0s <4us, L1 unlimited ExtTag+ AttnBtn- AttnInd- PwrInd- RBE+ FLReset- DevCtl: Report errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- RlxdOrd- ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop- MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 4096 bytes DevSta: CorrErr- UncorrErr- FatalErr- UnsuppReq- AuxPwr+ TransPend- LnkCap: Port #0, Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x1, ASPM L0s L1, Latency L0 <4us, L1 <64us ClockPM+ Surprise- LLActRep- BwNot- LnkCtl: ASPM L0s Enabled; RCB 64 bytes Disabled- Retrain- CommClk+ ExtSynch- ClockPM+ AutWidDis- BWInt- AutBWInt- LnkSta: Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x1, TrErr- Train- SlotClk+ DLActive- BWMgmt- ABWMgmt- Capabilities: [100 v1] Advanced Error Reporting UESta: DLP- SDES- TLP- FCP- CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt- RxOF- MalfTLP- ECRC- UnsupReq- ACSViol- UEMsk: DLP- SDES- TLP- FCP- CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt- RxOF- MalfTLP- ECRC- UnsupReq- ACSViol- UESvrt: DLP+ SDES- TLP- FCP+ CmpltTO- CmpltAbrt- UnxCmplt- RxOF+ MalfTLP+ ECRC- UnsupReq- ACSViol- CESta: RxErr+ BadTLP- BadDLLP- Rollover- Timeout- NonFatalErr- CEMsk: RxErr- BadTLP- BadDLLP- Rollover- Timeout- NonFatalErr+ AERCap: First Error Pointer: 00, GenCap+ CGenEn- ChkCap+ ChkEn- Capabilities: [13c v1] Virtual Channel Caps: LPEVC=0 RefClk=100ns PATEntryBits=1 Arb: Fixed- WRR32- WRR64- WRR128- Ctrl: ArbSelect=Fixed Status: InProgress- VC0: Caps: PATOffset=00 MaxTimeSlots=1 RejSnoopTrans- Arb: Fixed- WRR32- WRR64- WRR128- TWRR128- WRR256- Ctrl: Enable+ ID=0 ArbSelect=Fixed TC/VC=01 Status: NegoPending- InProgress- Capabilities: [160 v1] Device Serial Number 00-1d-09-ff-fe-c9-cb-6d Capabilities: [16c v1] Power Budgeting <?> Kernel driver in use: tg3 My bad MAC address aa:00:04:00:0a:04 is the same as of Paul and I have a different driver tg3.
