I get the exact same assert on my system (Ubuntu 10.04,
"2.6.32-24-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 19 01:38:40 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux"). 3.16 GHz Core2 with 4GB RAM.
However, it doesn't always assert as quick. In fact, the first time I
tried it, it ran for 10 minutes before asserting when I started an app
to load the second core.
I also did a large number of tries while already having started an
OpenGL game that utilises about 85% of one core. Starting the test plain
will result in an assert anywhere between 0-15 seconds. Starting with
taskset this increases to anywhere from 30 seconds to over 10 minutes
(where I stopped the test). In fact, after it went on for that long, it
kept going on subsequent tries as well. The last time I left it running
for 25 minutes and then quit the game. After that, the test asserted
within a second.
I could draw some conclusions, but since the kernel is not my particular
expertise, I'll leave it for the experts. I hope it helps.
