Even though "ln -s" is used at several places the symlinks aren't part of the resulting initramfs but are normal files instead. The problem is cpio's --dereference option when generating the initramfs inside mkinitramfs. Andreas Korsten pointed me to usr/gen_init_cpio.c in linux kernel source and his https://dev.korsten.org/hg/initramkit which is supposed to handle symlinks. But I think it could be done in current version of mkinitramfs as well, though it's not trivial the way it currently works. I've added this issue to debian/TODO of i-t.git, needs further investigation. regards, -mika-
