DKMS installs a script in /etc/kernel/postinst.d which will be called by the kernel package installation script. This will rebuild modules as necessary. However, packages using DKMS have to opt in to this automatic rebuild (AUTOINSTALL=yes), and it seems that virtualbox-ose does not.
