Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.31-1 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss
A bit after 16:00, I left my laptop on, but when I came back 3 hours later, the machine did not respond to the keyboard or the mouse, and the screen remained blank. I had to switch it off. This is the first time such a freeze occurs. But I usually use Ethernet, while I'm currently using wifi. It's too early to say whether I can reproduce the problem. After rebooting, fsck corrected errors. I don't know what has been lost exactly, but after restarting Firefox, the whole saved session was lost! I've looked at various log files, but unfortunately, I got nothing. Here are the most recent messages (they are from /var/log/syslog) before the reboot: Nov 14 16:03:01 xvii /USR/SBIN/CRON[7600]: (root) CMD (home_net >/dev/null) Nov 14 16:09:00 xvii named[1609]: listening on IPv4 interface wlan0, 192.168.0.5#53 Nov 14 16:17:01 xvii /USR/SBIN/CRON[8464]: (root) CMD ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly) -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.31-1-amd64 (Debian 2.6.31-1) (wa...@debian.org) (gcc version 4.3.4 (Debian 4.3.4-5) ) #1 SMP Sat Oct 24 17:50:31 UTC 2009 ** Command line: root=/dev/mapper/xvii-root ro quiet ** Tainted: P (1) * Proprietary module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 10.698136] yenta_cardbus 0000:03:01.0: MEM window: 0xf0400000-0xf07fffff [ 10.733036] dcdbas dcdbas: Dell Systems Management Base Driver (version 5.6.0-3.2) [ 10.757151] i801_smbus 0000:00:1f.3: PCI INT B -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19 [ 10.824820] yenta_cardbus 0000:03:01.0: ISA IRQ mask 0x0cb8, PCI irq 19 [ 10.824928] yenta_cardbus 0000:03:01.0: Socket status: 30000006 [ 10.825046] pci_bus 0000:03: Raising subordinate bus# of parent bus (#03) from #04 to #07 [ 10.825172] yenta_cardbus 0000:03:01.0: pcmcia: parent PCI bridge I/O window: 0x2000 - 0x2fff [ 10.825300] yenta_cardbus 0000:03:01.0: pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0xf1e00000 - 0xf1efffff [ 10.848094] cfg80211: Using static regulatory domain info [ 10.848197] cfg80211: Regulatory domain: US [ 10.848295] (start_freq - end_freq @ bandwidth), (max_antenna_gain, max_eirp) [ 10.848416] (2402000 KHz - 2472000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 2700 mBm) [ 10.848519] (5170000 KHz - 5190000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 2300 mBm) [ 10.848622] (5190000 KHz - 5210000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 2300 mBm) [ 10.848725] (5210000 KHz - 5230000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 2300 mBm) [ 10.848828] (5230000 KHz - 5330000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 2300 mBm) [ 10.848932] (5735000 KHz - 5835000 KHz @ 40000 KHz), (600 mBi, 3000 mBm) [ 10.849214] cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: US [ 10.990395] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21 [ 10.990567] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 11.031558] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, 1.3.27ks [ 11.031691] iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2009 Intel Corporation [ 11.031956] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 11.032096] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 11.032182] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5300AGN REV=0x24 [ 11.071617] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 24 802.11a channels [ 11.071796] alloc irq_desc for 30 on node 0 [ 11.071798] alloc kstat_irqs on node 0 [ 11.071818] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: irq 30 for MSI/MSI-X [ 11.235392] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/input/input10 [ 11.285038] input: HDA Intel Mic at Sep Left Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input11 [ 11.285228] input: HDA Intel Mic at Ext Right Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input12 [ 11.285400] input: HDA Intel Line Out at Sep Left Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input13 [ 11.285572] input: HDA Intel HP Out at Ext Right Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input14 [ 11.292655] Linux video capture interface: v2.00 [ 11.297722] phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-agn-rs' [ 11.314915] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_0.3M (0c45:63f8) [ 11.329292] input: Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_0.3M as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.7/usb1/1-6/1-6:1.0/input/input15 [ 11.329460] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo [ 11.329563] USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0) [ 11.359332] input: DualPoint Stick as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input16 [ 11.376275] input: AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input17 [ 11.661678] usb 3-1.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5 [ 11.794678] usb 3-1.3: New USB device found, idVendor=413c, idProduct=8156 [ 11.794799] usb 3-1.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 [ 11.794919] usb 3-1.3: Product: Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-card [ 11.795021] usb 3-1.3: Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corp [ 11.795212] usb 3-1.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 12.013092] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.15 [ 12.013472] NET: Registered protocol family 31 [ 12.013576] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized [ 12.013677] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized [ 12.032313] Bluetooth: Generic Bluetooth USB driver ver 0.5 [ 12.032528] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb [ 13.307022] EXT3 FS on dm-1, internal journal [ 13.500034] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -107741308 ns) [ 13.675011] loop: module loaded [ 17.295014] Adding 9928696k swap on /dev/mapper/xvii-swap_1.
