for me, the problem already disappeared when using 2.6.30 from
lenny-backports. That increased the whole performance too, I can
definetely recommend it.
only bad thing: the 3.5 gb bug applies again.

If I find the time to look into that more deeply I'll open a separate
bug report for that (if there isn't already one open).
Maybe it's just a problem between the version of the kernel module and
the version of kvm userspace tools.
