I've just looked into this old bug and I don't understand why you reopened it. What specifically needs to be changed in your opinion wrt the linux-2.6 source package? If you want to build a out of tree kernel module on your, you could look into DKMS (testing and sid only), but I don't see why anything should be needed on the kernel side.
