sorry that I didn't answer in time -- you guessed the problem partially: > Do you still own such a system? Yes, and it's also running Lenny -- the remote dist-upgrade went fine. But I don't have it on serial console anymore and it's in production at an offsite location, so difficult to reach and use for debugging kernel crashes. :-/ I noticed the error when I had the box here to replace the harddisk and used serial console because I didn't have a 13W3 capable monitor. At home, I have an UltraSparc 10 (should be the same as UltraSparc 5, except that it has a VGA graphics card and it's a tower case instead of a pizza box) running Sid. I could install Lenny kernels and test with them. I'm though not sure how much influence the graphics card and using grub instead of silo will have. At least on kfreebsd, using grub instead of the freebsd loader caused some differences (until grub had been fixed). Do you think it's worth a try anyway? Would Etch kernels still run with Sid, so that I can cross check?
