This actually appears to be an existing bug which could occur in case of any initialisation failure. Please could you test my attempted fix: 1. Download http://womble.decadent.org.uk/tmp/r128.ko (there is a GPG signature for this in http://womble.decadent.org.uk/tmp/r128.ko.asc ) 2. Uninstall firmware-linux 3. Stop the X server 4.
