Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686 Version: 2.6.29-3 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I've been using the curent version (2.6.28) for weeks, on my Dell Latitude D530, suspending every night and getting uptimes of 45 days (until I rebooted voluntarily) using it as a regular desktop machine, with very few glitches (maybe some applications leaking a bit, no showstoppers). With 2.6.29 however, the system only stays up for a few hours, then kind of hangs for no apparent reason, IIRC all times involving watching videos, e.g. with Xine. At some point the mouse can be moved but clicks don't work, the keyboard is unresponsive (except for [some?] Alt-SysRq combinations), and when playing music, the music continues for a few seconds and then the sound stops too. Closing the lid doesn't help, the system won't go to sleep and the screen contiues switched on while the lid is closed. My guess is that something related with video drivers is causing this (or video memory management, or something introduced in .29). I switched back to .28, maintaining all the versions of X.org and the rest of the system, only disabled screen effects in KDE4 as a cautionary measure, and I've been working without any problem since yesterday. I haven't tested thoroughly with OpenGL applications and the like, and I can't make many tests to try to isolate the problem because this is my only workstation/desktop machine at the moment, so I need it to work and communicate. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device 0200 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 506 Memory at fea00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] I/O ports at eff8 [size=8] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] Capabilities: [90] MSI: Mask- 64bit- Count=1/1 Enable+ Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 3 Kernel modules: intelfb 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c) Subsystem: Dell Device 0200 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at feb00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 3 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.4+1 ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.1-1 ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.0-1 --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.28-1-686 Debian Release: squeeze/sid 800 unstable www.debian-multimedia.org 800 unstable ftp.ch.debian.org 500 testing security.debian.org 500 testing ftp.ch.debian.org 100 experimental ftp.ch.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed =====================================-+-============= module-init-tools | 3.7-pre9-1 initramfs-tools (>= 0.55) | 0.93.2 OR yaird (>= 0.0.13) | OR linux-initramfs-tool | Recommends (Version) | Installed =========================-+-=========== libc6-i686 | 2.9-8 Suggests (Version) | Installed ===============================-+-=========== linux-doc-2.6.29 | grub | 0.97-53 OR lilo | --- Output from package bug script --- -- Manuel A.
