tags 483781 -wontfix thanks How is a mount helper supposed to address this? Having anything other than utf8 exposed on the vfs is broken, so it needs to be mounted as utf8; the fact that mounting as utf8 breaks vfat case-insensitivity is a bug in the vfat kernel driver.
