usespace, not the fedora userspace.
for most userspace apps there exist working patches as documented
by post of libdc1394 maintainer.

the new firewire stack were actually using it for digital video?
A start to doing something useful would be to admit that there is no
possibility that the new firewire stack can be reasonably tested for
video applications by the time lenny freezes.
we reverted for etch+half, if userspace stays as lame as currently
it is still an option for Lenny but we'd prefer out of several
provided grounds not to be forced to do that.
So the "purity" of your package means that people who want to digital
video over firewire in debian just get the shaft? Again: there is *no
reasonable way* that the new firewire stack can be tested in debian for
lenny at this point. The longer that the kernel package drags its feet
on including both firewire stacks, the longer it will take to write &
polish the documentation on how to use that configuration. (E.g., the
libraw1394 README.Debian says that things should just work with a debian
kernel--which used to be true, but isn't anymore.) To leave things they
way they are is itself "lame".
